The blanket plays a role as an urban animal, wanders through the city; explores its different aspects and opportunities with respect and common sense. The blanket moves from one place to another with respect and elegance, it seems free and light, capable of adaptation. After two months of fierce battle, the cannons and guns fall silent. The Viet Minh wins the Indochina War, and France loses its colony, the "Pearl of the Empire." Over the next two years, 30,000 repatriates from Indochina land in France. They had to leave in haste and abandon everything. Those who have connections disperse across the country, while others are taken in by the French administration and placed in temporary reception centers. Most are soldiers, Indochinese auxiliaries, and widows. The largest camps are those of Sainte-Livrade-sur-Lot (47), Bias (47), and Noyant-d’Allier (03). In Sainte-Livrade-sur-Lot and Bias, 1,900 repatriates are housed in former military powder factories. The comfort is rudimentary; metal camp beds are arranged in barracks with corrugated tin roofs. A "temporary, essentially precarious, and revocable accommodation," as stated in the 1959 camp regulations. The temporary arrangement lasted forty-nine years. In Noyant-d’Allier, the old mining housing (corons) is made available to the 1,700 new arrivals. Their discovery of mainland France is a brutal one. The reality is far from the fantasized image propagated by colonial schoolteachers. It’s winter, the snow covers the fields as far as the eye can see, and the thermometer reads minus twenty-five degrees. After the initial shock, they must adapt, find their place, and integrate. The children swell the numbers of nearby schools. The adults work in factories or on farms. Wages are low, and life is harsh. In 2013, the powder factory in Sainte-Livrade-sur-Lot was transformed into social housing. However, its pagoda and four buildings have been preserved as a place of memory. Some of the repatriates' children have returned to live in this area full of memories. We became aware of the importance of social connections for our balance and well-being. While physical distancing was encouraged, my research turned towards festive events that had been put on hold at the height of the pandemic. The discovery of the Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage in France represented a treasure trove of contacts and information. The "Rituals" project focuses on exploring nine rituals listed within it. Of all forms of gatherings, rituals are the most structured. These social practices, true markers of time, assert the history and memory of a community. Through their observation, we are witnessing ancestral history. The past intrudes into a contemporary setting, and different times collide. Participating in a ceremony like the Junte de Roncal, a Franco-Spanish peace treaty honored for six centuries, reminds us of where we come from and allows us to take stock of our contemporary world. What does a handshake represent in 2022? What does a compact crowd represent? Why do we continue to gather? The "Rituals" series offers a dual interpretation. On one hand, it will question our relationship with ancestral heritage, and on the other, it will explore the impact of the health crisis on our organization and perception of gatherings.This photographic work is part of the Grande commande photojournaliste organized by the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in 2022. Ten prints have been integrated into the French National Archives and were exhibited at the Bibliothèque Nationale de France in 2024. Four generations later, Jérémy Trincaz (23 years old) and his sister Virginie (26 years old), the great-grandchildren of the Commands, are at the helm of what has gradually become "Les Cornettes." Like their father, Jérémy and Virginie attended the Lycée Hôtelier Savoie Léman in Thonon-les-Bains. Their mother, on the other hand, graduated from the École Hôtelière de Blois. With each generation working for the next, the establishment has become an institution. The "Les Cornettes" series documents the family transmission of both tangible and intangible heritage across several generations. This work began in 2015 as part of the "La France Vue d'Ici" project organized by the ImageSingulières festival and Mediapart. In 2017, it was exhibited at the ImageSingulières Festival in Sète and later published in a collective book by La Martinière Editions. Choosing a profession that requires patience and manual intelligence, embracing a career in watchmaking, is a dedication to an exceptional craft. By focusing on the individual, this series of photographs reflects the inner flame that drives the pursuit of knowledge. Between France and Switzerland, from school to business, we navigate among different places of transmission. The custodians of knowledge change, as do the imperatives. Learning is a desire that can be nurtured throughout life. It is sometimes also a necessity imposed by career changes or economic circumstances. Regardless, it is a process that demands humility. This photographic work was created as part of a commission directed by the International Museum of La Chaux-de-Fonds and the Museum of Time in Besançon. On the occasion of the inclusion of watchmaking and mechanical arts on UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, these two museums decided to unite and commission six photographers. The work was published in a book by Silvana Editions. The "Face à Face" series was exhibited at the International Watchmaking Museum in La Chaux-de-Fonds in 2021 and was later integrated into the museum’s collection. ︎&nbsp;Home Bumpers graze, trajectories cross. Sometimes time seems to stop when two vehicles find themselves blocked face to face. The scene evokes ants touching their antennae as they cross paths. Every month, the horizon is a little more mutilated. From its smooth, straight line rise large rectangles of concrete and glass. More and more newcomers need to be housed. The nearby countryside is encircled by the tentacles of a city without limits. At the center of this cacophony, the atomic individual. At times an actor, at times a spectator, navigating according to their consciousness. Their relationship to history, their inspirations, the pressure of their peers—these are the winds that can alter their course. Humanity shapes its world. From its needs and desires emanates the modification of its environment. Newly unified and independent, Vietnam is now free to follow its own path. A novelty for the grandparents, a given for the grandchildren. At the crossroads of Western influences and the rest of Asia, the paths are many. In this context of frantic development, time seems to unravel. The past collides with the future.The "Vina 2000" series was created between 2016 and 2019 in Vietnam. What environment should you choose for yourself and your children? The Riverside neighborhood began to take shape in 2011 on the outskirts of Hanoi. Its inspiration is Venetian, and its ecological ambition is clear. The result provides the Vietnamese capital with its first luxury villas. In a country where the average monthly salary is around 260 dollars, these million-dollar homes stand out. The 183-hectare complex is secured 24/7 and houses nearly 900 homes. Within this controlled environment, an 18-kilometer artificial river winds through carefully aligned trees. Special attention is given to detail; maintenance teams trim the edges of green spaces by hand, and large umbrellas shade the SUVs parked on the sidewalks. Over the years, the neighborhood has expanded, and more amenities have been added: a shopping center, an international school, a golf course, and tennis courts. The goal is to ensure that residents no longer need to leave the comfort of their home. The photographic series "Riverside" blends reality and fiction, thanks to several CGI details photographed on the construction site hoardings during the development of the real estate project. It takes place in Alberta, at the Wainwright Training Center. Created in 1989, this program combines military instruction with Indigenous cultural teachings. The volunteer young Indigenous individuals, who are carefully selected beforehand, receive the basic training of a Canadian reservist over six weeks during the summer. On average, they are 17 years old. This year, 82 participants graduated. They are guided by military instructors and Indigenous elders. The first week is dedicated to Indigenous culture, with various traditional activities organized. The following five weeks provide military training. The young participants say they are looking for a new experience and a chance to learn discipline through Bold Eagle. Some hope to join the military after completing the summer camp.
